Our internal commitments.
Designing a more efficient approach.
From our people to our processes and the spaces where we operate, we’re continually looking for ways to improve. As a smaller, more nimble company, we’re better able to identify areas in need of change and make it happen quickly. Since we own our stores and manage our headquarters, we also have more control over our energy usage, allowing us to set and achieve loftier goals. The work in these areas is never finished, but we are committed to constantly challenging ourselves to do better.

Stores and operations.
We reduce our environmental impact everyday by using smart climate control systems, energy-efficient lighting, and renewable energy sources wherever possible. Our initial goal for operations is to have a minimum of 5% of energy consumption coming from renewable resources. This includes our stores, office, and warehouse operations. This goal is often limited by available energy production in the location and will increase as more renewable energy production is added across the country.
Our warehouse.
From investing in optimized high-efficiency electric forklifts to creating a dynamic truckload consolidation program, our Otsego warehouse is implementing more sustainable practices. ➔ Reducing waste of returned product, along with the potential it could end up in the landfill or require additional movement, by ensuring product arrives at its destination intact the first time. ➔ Reducing number of trucks on the road by using creative routing to maximize truck space for each delivery market. ➔ Eliminating pallet and shrink wrap waste by loading product on warehouse floor.
Store architecture.
To reduce our environmental impact, we seek out existing spaces and hire local architecture firms to design each one to fit our needs rather than building something new.
Outlet and returns.
Sustainable design aims to keep furniture out of the landfill. We do our part with our principled approach, as well as a sustainable return program. We inspect each return and, depending on its condition, either donate or resell it. Returns may go to 1st quality goods or be sold through either our Minneapolis Outlet or on our eBay site. Others are donated to charity.
Diversity, equity and inclusion.
We are committed to creating teams that mirror the communities where we live and work, while also creating an environment where everyone can be themselves. This work requires continually holding ourselves accountable and doing the work to ensure everyone feels empowered, respected, and represented.
